With the closure of schools due to COVID-19, many students are missing out the daily breakfast programs, snacks and lunches offered at most schools throughout Simcoe County. Many students rely on Student Nutrition Programs in schools, so when schools shut down, some students who benefited from nutrition programs returned to households struggling to put food on the table.

Student Nutrition Program community development coordinators have been working tirelessly to re-direct almost $30,000 of Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services funds. All of this money has been provided in the form of gift cards to emergency food outlets, like Food Banks/Agencies in many of our Simcoe County communities to help families with school-aged children.

Simcoe County schools had also received funding in the form of 15,000 food vouchers which have now been re-directed to Simcoe County Food Banks/Agencies. Thank you to the Grocery Foundation for providing these vouchers. Schools in Simcoe County are also re-directing their unused student nutrition program funding to local agencies of their choice.
